EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps to rapidly and permanently desensitize traumatic memories and can alleviate everyday anxiety and distress.

I have helped hundreds of clients gain powerful relief from their traumas with EMDR. For many of my clients, even decades of therapy weren’t enough to dissolve the true body based gut reactions that lived on after difficult experiences, but sometimes even one session can truly and permanently desensitize the traumatic effects of a difficult memory.

Have you had difficult experiences in your life that still impact you today? Do you find every day challenges can stress you out and make you feel anxious?

That tone of voice of your boss, the way your partner looked at you, or the way you feel when you’re afraid you’re doing it wrong-these kind of stressors can unconsciously pull us back into painful feelings from difficult moments in your past.

All of a sudden you are overcome with emotions, feeling powerless, upset, and sometimes can’t help but over-react.

Talk therapy can help you figure out where the distress came from and teach strategies for coping, but EMDR therapy goes a step further, helping clients get to the root and desensitize painful memories so they no longer need to exert effort to cope with and work around their triggers.

Through using a structured protocol and bilateral stimulation, EMDR therapy helps client’s brains process the trauma in a way that releases the charge.  When a memory is fully processed with EMDR, the client can still recall the memory, but the traumatic charge is gone-permanently.

When the client encounters situations again that remind them of aspects of the memory, they no longer have a traumatic reaction, making it much easier to stay calm and resilient, giving them peace and freedom.

Clients don’t need to come to therapy knowing what memories to process. The therapist will guide the client to identify any connections between present day stressors and past memories so they can be processed with EMDR.

In addition to EMDR, I also use Brainspotting, a modality that has similar benefits to EMDR, and some additional uses that can accelerate healing.
